'Oras De Peligro' is a Well-Documented Docu-Drama on the Big Screen | Movie Review

Back in my high school days, Philippine History under Social Studies is my favorite subject not to mention that I was the official Philippine History Quizzer of our school from first year to fourth year high school competing and winning in the different Quiz Bee competition in and out of our school. I even bagged the 'Best in Social Studies' awards during the First Year High School and Fourth Year High School Recognition Days.

Now in the modern day of the Gen Z's era, its good to know that many historical or political-themed movies specially about Martial Law are rising one-by-one. And one of these movies which captured my interest is the Joel Lamangan's film 'Oras De Peligro!'

'Oras De Peligro' stars Cherry Pie Picache, Allen Dizon, Dave Bornea, Therese Malvar, Nanding Josef, and activist Mae Paner. It will be hitting the cinemas nationwide this coming March 1, 2023, four days after the 37TH commemoration of the EDSA People Power Revolution. But prior to the official showing of the movie on cinemas, we got the chance to watch the movie in advance via a private press screening.

While watching the film, it gives me a goosebumps! It will give you a feel that the events in the movie are happening today! It will bring you back to the year of 1985 and 1986 as the movie presented in details the settings, background, and cinematography in an 80's feel! They use the color grading of the movie similar to the classic films!

The acting of the lead stars specially of Ms. Cherry Pie Picache is highly commendable! 'Ung magaling na actress na talaga si Ms. Pie before pero dito sa movie, mas gumaling pa siya lalo! As I've said in person during our private press screening, damang-dama mo ung emosyon, 'ung sakit, 'ung pighati ng character ni Ms. Pie sa movie! 'Ung ikaw na mismo 'ung maiinis at magagalit sa mga taong umabuso at tumapak sa karapatang-pantao nila! And yeah, ramdam mo rin 'ung prinsipyong ipinaglalaban ng character ni Allen Dizon! And I also got the empathy of Dave Bornea's character - his anger, his will of seeking justice for his killed father! Ganun sila lahat kagaling sa movie! I bet, they should win awards in the different award-wining bodies for their performance in this movie!

If Cherry Pie, Allen, and Dave handled the utmost drama in the movie, the character of the activist Mae Paner or better known as Juana Change on the other handled the lighter side of the story. She brings humor to the movie balancing the emotions of the viewers!

What more, the movie is well-documented! I'm amazed that they were able to incorporate actual video clips, footage, news, and events during 1986 with actual facts and details. It seems that you are watching a highly-acclaimed docu-drama program in the big screen! Facts were narrated and arranged in order with corresponding drama of the main characters in the movie!

Meanwhile, here are some of my video coverage right after our private press screening where the director, writers, press people, and audience shared their insights after watching the film:

And of course, here is the teaser-trailer of 'Oras De Peligro' video courtesy from Cinema Bravo. Let's watch this:

If the other movies of the same genre narrate about the stories of different political personalities, 'Oras De Peligro' on the other hand tells story about an unknown simple family who experienced abused and distortion of human rights. Wala ka ngang makikitang artista dito na gumanap kay ganitong pulitiko. The movie is just telling us the story of how ordinary people were living during the Martial Law.

'Oras De Peligro' also served as an eye-opener movie. They were brave on showing facts based on the actual footage. Still, there's no history revisionism.

And to answer the netizens' claim that this is an answer to Darryl Yap's 'Maid in Malacañang,' no it's not! To analyze, it is actually a prequel to #MiM! Watch it and see it yourself!

'Oras de Peligro' is written by playwright and martial law survivor Bonifacio Ilagan and screenwriter Eric Ramos, under Atty. Howard Calleja’s Bagong Siklab Productions. It will be showing on cinemas this coming March 1.

Right after watching the film, feel free to share us your thoughts, reactions, and reviews here in our website or in our other social media platforms! 02/20/2023 (TV Series Craze by Runner Rocky)
